Embracing your value and increasing your self-confidence

At Parentrepreneurs Club, we totally get the challenges you face as a working parent balancing business and family life. We're here not just to support you, but to help you recognise and harness your unique strengths.

This article is designed for you, focusing on:

  • Recognising your own worth

  • Building self-confidence

  • Thriving professionally

So, put down the multitasking props, grab your favourite drink, and dive in!

"Be curious, not judgmental." This wise advice from Ted Lasso is at the heart of our coaching through Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP, pioneered by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, champions a curiosity-led approach that focuses on flexible thinking, building rapport, and strategic action.

Self-awareness is your first step to growth. It’s a familiar term, but let’s unpack it.

Did you know that your body processes about 11 million bits of information per second, yet we're only consciously aware of about 50 bits? It's no wonder we often feel on autopilot, especially when life's daily chaos, from managing Zoom calls to wiping off crayon masterpieces from walls, can dull our senses.

Feeling stressed? Overwhelmed? Unmotivated? These signals from your body are vital cues that something’s amiss. Listening closely to these signs can help us manage our well-being more effectively.

By acknowledging that our thoughts significantly influence our life's trajectory, we can start to shift from limiting beliefs to empowering ones, truly reflecting our desires.

Take time each day to reflect. How are you feeling? What’s consuming your thoughts?

Psychometric tools like the DiSC assessment can offer deeper insights into your behaviours and how to enhance your effectiveness in life and work.

Next, let's explore the power of self-efficacy.

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t — you’re right." This quote by Henry Ford underscores the essence of self-efficacy. Psychologist Albert Bandura points out four key sources that can boost this trait:

1. Mastery Experiences: Success after taking on new challenges boosts self-efficacy tremendously. Whether it’s mastering a new skill or achieving a personal goal, these experiences reinforce our capacity to succeed.

2. Vicarious Experiences: Seeing someone similar to us succeed can inspire us to push our limits. It’s about the boost we get when we see others achieving great things.

3. Social Persuasion: Encouragement from others can be incredibly motivating. A simple word of support can help overcome doubts and strengthen self-belief.

4. Physiological Responses: Understanding and managing our body's reactions in stressful situations can enhance our confidence. Recognising nervous symptoms as normal can demystify experiences and reinforce our abilities.

Finally, learn to differentiate your self-worth from your actions. Mistakes happen, and they’re part of the journey. Embrace self-acceptance and treat yourself with the kindness you would offer a good friend. Mistakes are not failures, but opportunities for growth.

So take this to heart: know yourself, accept your imperfections, and continuously strive to be the best you can be. You’re doing wonderfully, and it's important to remember that, especially on the tough days!
